Spacelabs Medical Enhances Wireless Options, ConnectivitySpacelabs Medical, a global leader in patient monitoring systems,
announced the availability of a wireless networking option for its
UltraviewSL compact monitors. As part of the companys commitment
to open standards and connectivity, Spacelabs has developed a wireless
solution that is capable of operating on a hospitals existing wireless
infrastructure while coexisting with other wireless applications.
Spacelabs is initially launching its wireless connectivity solution in
the US and Canada; worldwide distribution is planned for early 2006.
Designed to meet customer needs for ease of use and compatibility with global standards, the UltraviewSL 2400 wireless monitor is compliant with 802.11b, the WiFi standard that has gained broad acceptance within health care institutions worldwide. Spacelabs is also introducing a field upgrade kit to enable existing UltraviewSL compact monitors to operate in a wireless environment.
In patient transport, when surveillance of critically ill patients may be most challenging, wireless connectivity is particularly important. By employing wireless monitoring, vital signs data can be displayed and viewed on central monitors while patients are being moved, enhancing patient safety and emergency response capabilities. In addition, wireless connectivity allows for continued, seamless collection of patient data into Spacelabs Intesys Clinical Suite (ICS) of network applications, helping minimize interruptions in automated documentation.
According to David Tilley, President and COO of Spacelabs Medical, The Spacelabs vision of open standards and connectivity has taken another step forward with the introduction of a wireless network option for the UltraviewSL 2400. Wireless network capability enables clinicians to access and document real-time patient information even during transport, helping them make critical decisions quickly and seamlessly.
The UltraviewSL 2400 wireless monitor provides a flexible solution that enables hospitals to augment the number of networked bedside monitors when extra capacity is needed. The new monitor has full network compatibility with all existing Spacelabs UltraviewSL, Ultraview and PCMS centrals and bedside monitors.
