OSI Systems' Security Division Recognized by Frost & Sullivan as 2008 North American Homeland Security Inspection & Screening Company of the Year

OSI Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:OSIS), a vertically-integrated provider of specialized electronic products for critical applications in the Security and Healthcare industries, today announced that its Security division, Rapiscan Systems has been named by Frost & Sullivan as the 2008 North American Homeland Security Inspection and Screening Company of the Year.

The selection was based on the Company's ability to produce results in a maturing industry, drive technological innovation, apply strategic vision to bring products and services successfully to market, and deliver the highest level of customer value and satisfaction. Rapiscan Systems was identified as the market leader by Frost & Sullivan who cited specifically its capacity to develop and deploy solutions that provide intelligence and enhance security at airports, seaports and border crossings around the world.

During 2008, Rapiscan Systems opened a manufacturing facility for its cargo and vehicle inspection products in North Carolina, expanded its manufacturing and service capacity at its California and Mississippi locations while also announcing the launch of a number of new solutions, highlights of which included:

  • The Rapiscan WaveScan 200 - a next-generation personnel screening system that utilizes passive millimeter wave technology to provide high throughput, non-intrusive detection of concealed explosive threats.

During 2008 Rapiscan Systems also received a number of U.S. government grants for the further development of advanced security solutions. Developed grants highlighted recently included the receipt of a development grant from the U.S. Transportation and Security Administration for its Rapiscan RTT (Real Time Tomography) high-speed stationary gantry checked baggage screening system, and the receipt of two grants from the U.S Domestic Nuclear Detection Office for continued development of cargo and vehicle inspection systems that can automatically detect radiation-nuclear material.
