OSI Systems Receives Highest Level European Approval for Large Tunnel RTT™ Ultra-High Speed Checked Baggage Inspection System

  • Achieves ECAC Standard 3 with revolutionary CT technology based inspection system, RTT 110, accommodating efficient processing of large baggage
  • Adds to suite of next generation hold baggage screening solutions that include RTT 80

HAWTHORNE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- OSI Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSIS) today announced that its Security division, Rapiscan Systems, passed the European Civil Aviation Conference's (ECAC) Standard 3 threat detection test, the highest standard set by ECAC for the detection of explosive threats in passenger baggage with its large tunnel RTT™ 110 (Real Time Tomography) Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) system that is capable of handling a wider range of baggage sizes.

The newly approved RTT 110 and earlier approved RTT 80 can screen bags at up to 1,800 bags per hour, significantly faster than the CT based HBS systems currently installed at airports. The RTT's unique design allows the processing speed of baggage screening to be at the same rate of speed as airport baggage handling systems, simplifying new installations or replacement of existing baggage inspection equipment. With its larger tunnel size, the RTT 110 is designed to fit the needs of airports that are looking for a hold baggage scanner that can accommodate larger items and easily integrate with their existing baggage handling infrastructure.

OSI Systems CEO, Deepak Chopra, commented, "We are excited to receive ECAC Standard 3 approval for the RTT suite of next generation CT based inspection systems. ECAC's testing process is one of the most rigorous worldwide and is used by many of the world's busiest airports, making this an achievement that is relevant for customers globally. Airports that rely on ECAC certified systems now have the ability to select the right mix of RTT models to optimize handling of standard and large baggage while achieving the highest levels of security."
