Rapiscan Systems Opens Mississippi Manufacturing FacilityRapiscan Systems, a division of OSI Systems Inc., opened a new 10,000 square-foot factory in Ocean Springs, Miss. that will manufacture multiple Rapiscan Secure 1000 and Rapiscan Gamma Radiographic Detection Systems, the company said Friday.

The factory was opened today, with Senator Trent Lott (R-Miss.) on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The company said it expects to create dozens of jobs in Ocean Springs and jobs statewide by using Miss.-based vendors.

The Rapiscan Secure 1000 is a non-intrusive personnel screening system designed to detect metallic and nonmetallic threat objects using Rapiscan backscatter X-Ray technology. The Rapiscan GaRDS product line detects hidden contraband including weapons, explosives, weapons of mass destruction, drugs and undeclared goods, the company said.



Hawthorne-based OSI Systems (NASDAQ: OSIS) is a global developer, manufacturer and seller of security and inspection systems, medical monitoring and anesthesia products and optoelectronic devices and subsystems. Its Rapiscan Systems division is a supplier of security inspection solutions using X-ray and gamma-ray imaging and advanced threat identification techniques.
