Spacelabs Healthcare Introduces New Line of Anesthesia Ventilators

OSI Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSIS) announced today that Blease Medical, the anesthesia business group within its Spacelabs Healthcare division, has added seven new ventilators to its existing product line. The introduction of these ventilators enables clinicians to enhance control over the delivery of ventilation and more finely tune their requirements to a surgical procedure and the individual characteristics of a patient.

The new ventilators incorporate Precision Pressure Control Ventilation which further enhances the performance, safety and precision of the ventilator by actively controlling flow into and out of the ventilation drive system, throughout the entire respiratory cycle.  This is a key element of Bleases focus on Patient Centered Ventilation.

In addition, each of these seven new ventilators work in conjunction with a large 8.4 touch screen display, available in either monochrome or color format. This screen, in conjunction with Blease Medicals proprietary Touch and Trak user interface is easy to use, allowing clinicians to focus greater attention on other aspects of patient care.

Blease Medical intends to market the new ventilators on a global basis.

CEO of OSI Systems, Mr. Deepak Chopra, stated, Blease has a strong product development heritage, especially in ventilation technology. It is therefore fitting that the first major new product release since we acquired Blease in February 2005 is the addition of seven new ventilators to our existing line of ventilators. These new ventilators provide our customers the flexibility to choose a ventilator that is right for them and the patient, in terms of safety, performance and price, advantages that we believe will support our upcoming U.S. market launch.

Ventilators are used commonly in the operating theatre and in the ICU to deliver mechanical ventilation to the lungs. In the operating theatre, the ventilators are designed to deliver varying concentrations of oxygen, air, nitrous oxide and volatile agents to patients through an anesthetic circuit. In the ICU, ventilators provide respiratory support to patients with respiratory failure.
