University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics Bring Advanced Monitoring and Telemetry Systems to Patient Care

University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics Bring Advanced Monitoring and Telemetry Systems to Patient Care

Healthcare professionals at University of Missouri Hospitals & Clinics, Columbia Regional Hospital and Missouri Rehabilitation Center are partnering with Spacelabs Medical to enhance patient care and safety by installing state-of-the-art patient monitors and telemetry throughout their facilities. The approximate $6.3 million investment in enterprise-wide patient monitoring and telemetry systems is part of Missouri's initiative to improve the flow of information so that clinicians have instant access to complete, real-time data from anywhere in the university healthcare system.

The new system will support rapid, informed decision-making by providing physicians, nurses and other healthcare staff with secure access to patients' vital signs, orders, medication charting, medical records, laboratory reports, test results and other records right at bedside or via the Internet.

From an information technology perspective, Spacelabs monitors and networking feature a cost-effective, easily maintained infrastructure that will interface with the hospital's state-of-the-art Cerner information system.

Spacelabs patient monitoring systems will be installed in operating rooms and post-acute intensive care units, as well as in intensive care units for pediatric, adolescent, cardiac, post-surgical and burn patients and in telemetry areas for cardiovascular monitoring.

Spacelabs solutions for the University of Missouri Health Care System include:

  • UltraviewSL patient monitoring systems, including the SL2400 compact, SL2700 and SL2800 bedside patient monitors and SL3800 central monitor for hardwired, wireless and telemetry patients.
  • Enterprise-wide Intesys Clinical Suite (ICS), which seamlessly integrates real-time patient data into hospital information systems, and includes such features as Full Disclosure, Vital Signs Viewer, HL7 interfaces and Print Manager.
  • WinDNA, delivering charting, lab, Internet, Intranet and HIS applications to the patient monitor display.
  • Flexports, integrating data from standalone, third-party devices into the trended patient record.
  • UltraviewSL Digital Telemetry offerings, enabling surveillance of patients with portable monitors outside the central antenna coverage area and, through networking, throughout the hospital.
  • UltraviewSL Dual Capnography Module, providing comprehensive information about patient respiratory status and adequacy of ventilation.
  • BIS module, to aid in monitoring the hypnotic effects of anesthetics and sedatives on the brain.
